About the Model Policy Framework Committee

The Model Policy Framework Committee is a group of criminal justice experts and practitioners who were called upon by the Veterans Justice Commission. They were charged with creating a policy framework that expands opportunities for veterans to access community supervision instead of prison while establishing key elements to help jurisdictions provide such opportunities through evidence-based practices that address veterans’ unique challenges.

Members of the committee presented the framework to the Criminal Justice Task Force of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). In August 2023, ALEC adopted the Veterans Justice Act, a model policy based on the framework.

Committee members participate in their individual, not their institutional, capacities. Professional affiliations do not imply institutional endorsement.
